Come On Guys

Do you really think a Freshman English teacher would accept the argument "I only copied a little bit so it's not plagiarism?" No. Come on.

First off, Google has a VAST market share of the search market, but that isn't even Google's bread and butter. Google makes it's billions off of advertising (granted, a lot of that comes from the search engine) such as Adsense or Double Click. Google offers these FREE products, such as Search, webapps (gmail, gcal, gdocs, etc), Chrome, and Android to drive more traffic to their ADVERTISEMENTS, not their search results.

Therefore, its not that Google is feeling threatened that Microsoft has a whopping 12% of search queries (congrats, Bing finally broke double digits), but it's trying to keep keep people that want to walk on the slippery slope honest.

P.S. Why wasn't there this negative backlash when Google self-policed it's own Google Maps when it inadvertently collect non-sensical data from users of unsecured WiFi connects. There wasn't even enough data to identify a user's IP address, let alone their identity, but I didn't see this uprising against the government for, how did we call it...petty complaints about "foul play".
